A New Script for Guy Debord's 'Critique of Separation', 1961

by: C. Clarke

This text uses the script from the Rebel Press edition of 'Society of the Spectacle and Other Films by Guy Debord'. The notes on the visual content, sub-titles and musical accompaniment remain the same, with a new commentary replacing the original written voiceover.

Seven Works

by: C. Clarke

This essay looks at the idea of the space or interruption in the artwork, ranging from the periods of black leader in the films of Guy Debord, James Coleman and Chris Marker to the canvas as a void in Kasimir Malevich's Black Square. It examines how this gap is positioned as a respite in spectatorship and a disruption of the scopophiliac impulse.

Un Identity

by: C. Clarke

This essay is constructed through 66 quotations, as a (loosely) coherent text. While many of these sources are deeply entrenched in literary theory, a number are taken completely out of context. Even in contradiction, the ideas of others can be adapted and re-contextualised. An extensive endnotes section opens up the dialectic further, directing the reader to continue beyond the text.
