GOSIA
WLODARCZAK
1. A full scale photograph of myself cut into pieces - a puzzle style.
2. A group of people chosen from the NY's telephone book. As many people
as pieces x 3.
3. A venue address and time of the performance.
4. I will sent letters to each of the chosen people with a piece of my
photo and invitation / explanation to come on a certain date and time
with the piece of photograph and stick the piece on the wall in the correct
position. This way all the invited people will construct my image and
so enable me to visit New York and meet them. Because the response of
people is unpredictable my image will be unpredictable too -- so my presence
depends completely on the hospitality and willingness of New Yorkers to
participate, which is always by chance.

ARTISTS STATEMENT
Differance 4: Woda/Water (seen at right) speaks of living in two languages,
Polish and English. Each language spontaneously and inexplicably occurs
in thinking of different areas of life; sometimes they overlap, sometimes
they are separate. Being conscious in two languages creates unpredictable
moments during which one is not able to communicate in words; a 'space'
between languages. This void nullifies identity, and produces a sense
of displacement and confusion; although there are no words and no language,
thinking however, still exists.
