FREE WORDS: THE FREE WORDS PROJECT

Spoonbill & Sugartown   THE FREE WORDS PROJECT

FREE WORDS is a book which belongs to whoever finds it. 3000 copies have been produced by artist Sal Randolph and are being distributed free worldwide. The books are placed on the shelves of bookstores and libraries creating an art situation that infiltrates public and commercial space.

The book is simply placed on the shelf. It is clearly labled as free. What someone does when they come across it is up to them.

Over 2500 copies of the book have already been distributed in sites across the United States and around the world, primarily through a network of volunteer distributors.

The text of FREE WORDS is a list of 13,000 words which has been placed in the public domain. “No Rights are Reserved,” declares the copyright page. The artist has been accumulating this list of words for the past ten years and is now making it available to anyone for any use whatsoever.
